WHO WE ARE?
The Central Institute of Open Schooling Examination was established under the aegis of Program of Action of 1985, by the Government of India, and according to the guidelines set forth by the Indian Government’s National Education Policy of 1986. As an autonomous body, our focus is on development of education and we incorporate the assistance of educational experts to expand the horizons of education to underprivileged students, young and old, to enhance literacy in India.
Our educational spheres include non formal Primary, Middle, High School and Intermediate education. Additionally, we also have several vocational courses under the Self Employment Education Scheme, which aim at educating uneducated or under-educated children and adults to improve literacy in the country. Our education does not stop at just books – we follow international standards and techniques to impart moral values, and to enhance our students’ mind, body, personality and social skills.
All our educational boards and universities are autonomous bodies, just as we are, and each organization has its own discretionary powers to admit or refuse services or admission. These powers are in according to those vested by the Central or State Government to all boards and universities that come under its jurisdiction. While we do have the authority to offer our services on discretion, when we do provide educational services we ensure that each course runs successfully and every non-formal course benefits students. The board owns and runs the entire autonomous education program. The law of the land and the Constitution of India, under Articles 15(5), 16(4), 16(4A), 16(4B), 19(1) G, 29, 30, 30(1), 46, 335 prescribe norms regarding the Utility, Legality and Validity of each educational program that we offer.

The Central Institute of Open Schooling founded for the benefit of students who, due to personal circumstances, were unable to enjoy the benefits of regular schooling. On considering the current educational system, the challenge that lay ahead was to constitute an appropriate curriculum that delivered the instruction required for a well-rounded education and to make non-formal classes as effective as regular classes. With this in view, we worked at putting together an organized and well-planned extended learning system that allowed students of all ages to continue learning while pursuing other activities. By getting our endeavors online, we were able to remove location constraints, reach out to students throughout the country and extend the right level of education to them.
According to the National Policy on Education, the Central Institute of Open Schooling encouraged to extend phased learning opportunities for Secondary and Senior Secondary levels throughout India and across the world as a completely independent system. With this in view we developed our own curriculum, examination system, awards and certifications, all approved legally under the Government of India as valid educational tools. Our primary aim was to help students and working professionals throughout India and abroad to enhance their education without hampering their current endeavors.
Needless to say, our endeavors were a success, especially when we took our education initiatives online. The Internet provides a convenient means of education, and we abided by the suggestions of the National Policy on Education and started the Central Institute of Open Schooling Examination. In a very short span of time, our educational courses and instructional deliveries received much recognition online and we have seen our dreams to improve education for students across the world, turn into a beautiful reality. When we established Central Institute of Open Schooling Examination, we envisaged it to be a comprehensive instructional delivery institution that gave students the liberty to get education without the necessity of having to attend regular classes. In this endeavor we have certainly succeeded with our distance education program that extends learning tremendously. Additionally, the Central Institute of Open Schooling High School and Intermediate Examination has received much renown in terms of providing opportunities to students and delivering instructional resources no matter where they are in India and abroad.
Our motto is to help all students get quality education no matter where they are, and in line with this we offer comprehensive online solutions. We have contributed remarkably in the field of education, in several streams of study. As an organizational unit, we have worked to provide students with viable options to educate themselves, even if they are working in India or abroad. What makes us different from most other institutes is that we offer a convenient and viable option to students to explore different levels of education and get professional certification as suggested by the National Policy on Education. Enrollment is simple and students can learn at their own pace. Enrollment numbers are handed out immediately and online study material is easily available based on each student’s individual language preference. Additionally, results are verified and the educational system followed by our institutes are on and above par with international standards.
The board of education has been established to promote social, economic and educational progress amongst different sections of society in India. Primary focus is given to the economically and socially backward, as we envision seeing an India free of illiteracy and where social evils related to lack of education are a thing of the past. The Board aims at improving foundations of education, cutting-edge research and promoting flexibility, passion for learning and adaptability. With an aim to equip young people to improve their careers and take care of unforeseen needs of the future, the Board tries to mould and nurture talent. We also aim at making a significant contribution to several other sections of society and to the community at large. We have expert professors and scholars on the Board, and they do their best to use their expertise to improve agencies, organizations and societies affiliated to the Government or those that stand on their own.
The Board believes that we should build education for the future as well as provide meaningful employment skills. With this in view, we have segregated different educational systems to make them stand alone and reduce rigidity in the overall Indian higher educational system structure and to make education more flexible across all departments. Unlike other educational courses, students can learn across all departments within and around affiliated institutions.
I therefore am pleased to declare that the trajectory of the Central Institute of Open Schooling Examination now includes natural science programs along with liberal arts alongside each other for students who wish to make their learning system flexible and expand their horizons of knowledge and capabilities. Students will have, at the core of their education, arts and science programs, while the Board caters to fulfilling their educational aims and providing for the literate improvement of Indian society as a community and as a country.
